Outset Medical is rethinking the dialysis market, which has seen little innovation in decades. Tablo functions like a dialysis clinic on wheels. It was designed to reduce costs and complexity while improving the patient experience – expanding the how, when, and where dialysis can be provided.

In particular, NextEra Energy’s subsidiary, Florida Power & Light (FPL), is already operating 18 solar power plants in the Sunshine State that are capable of producing 1,250 megawatts of combined solar capacity. In 2019, FPL is adding four new solar sites, which builds on FPL’s plan to install 30 million more solar panels in the state by 2030 (also known as the 30-by-30 initiative). These solar panels will be critical to low-cost production for cannabis growers that have been flocking to the Florida marketplace in the early going. 

Of course, LEO operators could scale-up peak service capacity by launching ever bigger constellations or deploying bigger satellites with wider payloads. Or they might evolve increasingly intelligent ways to dynamically focus transponder bandwidth into a highly concentrated service region during a fly-by. That capability could be delivered incrementally as operators replenish a fleet or in-situ, by leveraging new software-defined space platforms such as the recently announced SmartSat from Lockheed Martin. At any rate, the most effective satellite IoT systems will be dimensioned to serve cost-effective “hot-spots” around major population hubs. Note that Geostationary Orbit (GEO) holds some clear advantages in this regard and this could hold some significance in certain network deployments.

The popular stand-alone Bluetooth beacons are stationed at a store or gate to help mobile apps know exactly where the user is located, without storing their location data for privacy assurance. Second, they create a grid system. By leveraging a whole infrastructure, these apps can deliver turn-by-turn directions and understand how the user is moving through the entire space. Beacons and smart airport apps can also help deliver flight delay or gate change information to passengers quickly.
