The MNRE implemented the Small Hydro Power programme until 31 March 2017 under which central financial assistance in the form of grants or subsidy was provided for, inter alia, setting up small hydropower projects up to 25MW capacity, development or upgrading of water mills (mechanical or electrical output) and setting up micro hydel projects up to 0.1MW capacity.
