With regard to solar projects, most of the schemes under the NSM provide for deployment of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology. Projects selected are technology-agnostic and allow crystalline silicon or thin film or concentrator PV. Generally, the capacity of each project under NSM is required to be at least 10MW. However, the project capacity may be determined by the implementation agency, depending on the plot size and availability of land in the particular state. For example, the latest auction being conducted by SECI stipulates the minimum size a developer can bid for as 50MW. Solar parks are seeing interest from the private sector as developers are insulated from the major risks relating to land and evacuation. In March 2017, MNRE issued the Scheme for Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects.
