Georgia Power came up fourth among the large utilities in the region with 426 watts of solar installed per customer. That’s down from third last year. In first place is Duke Energy Progress with 1,625 watts per customer.

The Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2014 provides definitions of ‘renewable energy’ and ‘renewable energy service company’ that are not provided for in the Electricity Act. In order to promote generation of electricity from renewable energy sources, the Electricity Amendment Bill encourages governments at central and state level to provide tax rebates, generation-linked incentives, the creation of a national renewable energy fund, etc.

SECI is a GOI enterprise which facilitates the implementation of renewable energy projects including the National Solar Mission (NSM). It is responsible for implementation of certain MNRE schemes, the major ones being the viability gap funding (VGF) schemes for large-scale grid-connected projects, solar park scheme, grid-connected solar rooftop scheme, along with several other specialised schemes such as the defence scheme and canal-top scheme.

Potential options being weighed by the city and National Grid include acoustic and optical sensors, wi-fi equipment, and technology for 5G, the next generation of wireless technology.

Next up: fully integrated autonomous cars, smart streetlights, and possibly becoming a test site for the Virgin Hyperloop One high-speed train. (And who knows? If the train takes off, we may see a Hyperloop travel rewards credit card.)
